Joining Instructions

Arriving on Sunday

Please drive, taxi, or walk directly to the Glen Eyre Reception (see Glen Eyre Halls map below) to pick up the accommodation keys, parking instructions, etc. Then find your room in the Hartley Grove hall.

Bedrooms in Halls will normally be available from 3pm onwards. Delegates arriving earlier than 3pm may leave their luggage in the Hall and will be allocated a bedroom as soon as possible. Glen Eyre Reception is open 24 hours a day and the staff are available for all enquiries.

There is parking space available adjacent to the Hartley Grove Halls. Monday breakfast is available 8:00am to 8:30am in the Arlott Room, B38 on the Highfield Campus (a breakfast ticket is provided in the Halls Welcome pack).

Arriving on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday

You have accommodation at Glen Eyre Halls

Please note that bedrooms are allocated from 3:00pm on the evening of your stay. If you are arriving in the morning we suggest you go directly to the conference venue, luggage can be stored there, and you can travel to Glen Eyre Reception (see map above) and complete the Halls check-in after the conference technical sessions have finished. If you are arriving in the evening please travel directly to the Glen Eyre Reception. Car parking is available adjacent to the Halls at Glen Eyre and you can collect a parking permit and instructions when you check in.

You don't require accommodation

Please travel directly to the Highfield Campus interchange, the Nuffield Theatre is immediately adjacent, and register at the conference venue.

Car Parking at the Conference Venue

If you require parking at the conference venue please use the Hampton Car Park (Download PDF file with directions for the Hampton car park). If you have not already received a permit for Hampton Car Park, please email us to request one. Additional permits will be available at the conference reception desk.

WiFi access on campus

The University has several campus-wide WiFi networks. Conference delegates can access the “ISS” network using individual logins/passwords that are available at the reception desk. The ISS network is open and, once connected, will redirect you a web-based login page. Once logged in you will have general internet access. The login/passwords are also valid for accessing university workstations around the campus. In addition, the University provides a separate Eduroam service that can be accessed by academic users if you have an Eduroam registration at your own institution.

Venue

The conference will be held in the Nuffield lecture theatre adjacent to the Arts Annex on the main Highfield Campus at the University of Southampton. The campus a short walk from the city centre.

Breakfast and Lunch

Breakfast is served 08:00-08:30 for overnight delegates in the Arlott Room, Building 38 (pictured below). Lunch is 13:00-14:00 in the Hartley Suite in the same Building 38. Please show your WES-2012 name badge to the staff when being served breakfast or lunch. For Monday morning breakfast, which is before registration, please use the breakfast ticket provided in the Halls Welcome Pack.

Nuffield Lecture Theatre, Arts Annex

The console PC runs Microsoft Windows 7 and a standard Microsoft Office 2010 suite with PowerPoint for slides and Adobe Reader if you have a PDF file. You can connect your own laptop to the VGA connector (and 3-pin audio jack for sound, if required). Laser pointers, etc., will be available. Your presentation should be timed at 16 minutes for the talk leaving 4 minutes for Q&A.

Conference Banquet at Chilworth Manor, Tuesday Night

The Conference Banquet will be 19:00-22:15 on Tuesday evening at Chilworth Manor Hotel, Southampton, Hampshire, SO16 7PT.
The Coach for transport to Chilworth Manor will pick up at18:45 from the coach bay at the Highfield Interchange. This is located outside of the Nuffield Foyer and towards the end of the building (on the right when exiting Nuffield Foyer to teh interchange). Departure from Chilworth is at 22:30 and the coach will drop off at Hartley Grove and then the Highfield Interchange.

How to get there, Travel info

The campus is easily accessible by rail via Southampton Central or Southampton Airport Parkway stations and Uni-Link bus connection, by car via M3, M27 motorway and A34, A36 road, and by air via Southampton International Airport.
